WT #152, Hollow Form Vessel from Beetle Killed Ponderosa Pine with Malachite and Jet inlay, 19.25” inch tall x 17.25” diameter with a 3.125” opening, finished with a mixture of dark tung oil and walnut oil with a cyanoacrylate coating and buffed finish.
I collected most of the trunk of a large Ponderosa killed some years ago by the beetles so I’ve started a series of large vessels from this one tree. This particular tree really shows the spalting caused the fungus the beetles carry into, the tree. The green malachite inlay I put into cracks that occurred as the tree dried out. I inlayed the areas cut out by the beetles with the black jet.
