Live edge Hollow Form Vessel from Mesquite with Jet inlay, 7.5” diameter x 11.125” tall with 1.625” opening, walnut and Osmo finish. Just finished my latest piece which turned into one of my most challenging and rewarding works yet. This extremely dry and desiccated piece of Mesquite had so many voids and was very difficult to hollow successfully. I was seconds from finishing the hollowing when I had a tool catch and the vessel broke apart into six pieces. There is an ancient Japanese pottery art called Kintsugi where broken pattern is repaired using powdered gold and lacquer. I did basically the same process using my crushed Jet inlay and cyanoacrylate. The repair resulted in a vessel stronger than the original and I was able to put it back in the lathe and finish it.
